Should you compare yourself with others?

Right from childhood, one is taught to compare himself with his friends and be better than them. One gets so engrossed in this race, that he forgets the value of real achievement. All is seen relatively from most important to least important things in life. It starts from marks during school time to salary when one starts earning. Sometimes when one lags behind in comparison, the absolute happiness seems small. On the other hand, if one does better than others he feels proud. But it gives rise to a false sense of ego. Everyone is unique and has different priorities of sources of happiness. Some prefer family, some money, some fame and some others prefer something else. It is better to continue following whatever holds the most importance to you and avoid comparing yourself with others.
