We all want to be happy without really knowing what makes us happy. What matters to you the most? Is it money, fame, family, friends or any loved one? There is no one source of happiness. May be we rely too much on a single source and that leads to a lot of expectations. This may hinder your happiness from other sources.
Happiness also depends upon one's personality. Someone finds happiness in small things and some keep on waiting for something big to happen. Some people set best possible targets and they feel unhappy even if they achieve it with minor adjustments. Some people are flexible and they adapt to situations at hand. They find it easy to accept things and move on.
In general, there are 3 types of situations in life - controllable, uncontrollable and ambiguous. There are certain things which you have undertaken many times and you exercise complete control over them. You are certain about the outcome. Then there are things which are entirely beyond your control. For instance when you are driving, you have no control on the traffic conditions. Finally, there are certain conditions about which you are not so sure and you need to take decision on whatever information is available to you. Being aware of these three situations as they come can help in responding in the best possible way and maintaining state of happiness or serenity.
Perfection and happiness seem to work in opposite direction. When perfection is sought, even a minuscule mistake disturbs entire happiness and success achieved so far seems useless. Entire chain of positive experiences goes in vain due to just one negative experience. Probably due to this, we tend to remember even a single negative experience more prominently instead of umpteen positive experiences while coming back from a tour.
It is natural to feel frustrated when things do not go as planned by us. But nothing is going to improve by doing so. On the contrary, things may further go wrong as one is in emotional state of mind rather than logical. It makes sense to let go off that momentary feeling, accept what reality is and then think in a logical way. Happiness seems to be a state of mind rather than something absolute.
